AIA Greater Columbia Section Tours the Historic Adluh Flour Project

Columbia, SC – Hood Construction was proud to welcome the AIA Greater Columbia Section to the Historic Adluh Flour site for their annual membership meeting and tour. The group was led by Hood Construction Project Manager Jeremy Rowe, Studio2LR’s Wes Lyles, Project Architect, and Steve Davis, Hood Construction Project Superintendent.

The tour began with an outstanding presentation of the history of Allen Brothers Milling, given by Bill Allen, Vice President of Adluh Flour. Immediately following was an upstairs tour of two primary sections of the structure. “We were able to salvage the heart of pine flooring for re-use in the building, and the exposed beams will remain. What you see today, with the exposed wood ceiling rafters, is how it will look – since the roof’s insulation will be on the exterior,” explained Jeremy. “It has also been important to keep the flour mill’s operations flowing smoothly while construction operations take place – so we’ve had to be very strategic in our planning of logistics and safety, while remaining efficient with our deliveries and activities outside the building.”

The project’s construction scope consists of new historically-accurate exterior building elements, along with full replacement of the roof system, mechanical system, electrical system, and numerous site improvements. Upon its completion this winter, the Adluh Flour building will boast multiple tenant spaces, as well as a new outdoor patio on the lower level.
