Hood Construction Breaks Ground on New Parish Life Center

Columbia, SC – The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Parish Life Center at St. Joseph Catholic Church, a landmark along Columbia’s Devine Street corridor, took place May 27th just after evening mass. Monsignor Richard Harris led the dedication, where a number of Parishioners and members of the surrounding neighborhoods were in attendance for this celebrated occasion.

Hood Construction was selected as the Construction Manager for this Design-Assist endeavor, to work in concert with Jumper Carter Sease Architects. St. Joseph’s new Parish Life Center is beautifully designed to complement the existing campus, while further enhancing the local community, providing a seamless transition for the surrounding campus. Exterior finishes include historically significant detailing, cathedral windows and fine stone craftsmanship – while the interior scope delivers additional special features, such as a monumental staircase, flexible meeting spaces, a warming kitchen, parish offices, and a counseling center.

A comprehensive site work re-design was also incorporated, to accommodate the new 21,000 SF, 2-story structure — while providing additional parking and accessibility options for the Parishioners. The new Parish Life Center should be completed in early 2015.
