Barnes Student Activity Center

Higher Ed, Historic Renovation

Project Summary

The Clemson University Student Activity Center is a historic renovation of the sheep barn ó the oldest building of agricultural use on Clemsonís campus. This early 1900ís structure was transformed into a multi-use center for students. With a focus of indoor-outdoor integration, the building features a large curtainwall entrance and an extensively hardscaped 4,000 SF plaza with outdoor seating. Much of the original building, including siding and structural components, were restored and re-used.

The buildingís interior features kitchen space, restrooms, and an open venue area with polished concrete floor ó complimenting the existing 100 year old concrete which remains in many areas. A 1,000 SF outbuilding is also included for added storage, the housing of A/V systems, and additional restrooms.
