Savage Craft Ale Works
Historic Renovation
Project Summary
This historic renovation transformed a former fire station, armory and jail into one of the most exciting new breweries in the Columbia area. Boasting a full kitchen, brew space, tap room, and multiple gathering spaces, this 12,800 SF structure made use of the preexisting building, which laid empty for decades. Efforts were made to preserve original wood flooring in spaces throughout the facility, and equipment around the building was repurposed and given new life, such as the former overhead garage door being turned into furniture. The former jail, located on property, was converted into a full commercial kitchen that regularly serves hundreds of patrons. Highly successful, this project was honored in 2022 by the SC Department of Archives and History with an Honor Award for its excellence in historic preservation.
