From first learning of a project opportunity, to the groundbreaking, and finally to the day of the ribbon-cutting, our team takes pride in each step of the process. It is both exciting and rewarding to have the opportunity to have our handprint on the buildings we construct, and a role we do not take for granted. We take pride in the work we do, and it shows.

Culture and Volunteering

What can you expect the work environment to be like at Hood? Aside from a very competitive benefits and pay package, our firm also enjoys benefitting the community. We volunteer with a variety of non-profit organizations, including Camp Cole, construction projects with Home Works, Heart Walk with the American Heart Association, annually adopt youth at Palmetto Place Children & Youth Services each Christmas, and volunteer with Carolina Sunshine for Children as well as many other programs throughout the state. Several of our employees have organizations that are near and dear to their hearts, and if there is a fundraiser or volunteering opportunity that we need to be a part of, we step up to the plate to help. Building our community includes assisting these important organizations that are an integral part of it, and we strive to help them carry out their very important missions.

Professional Development

Hood employees are also eligible for a number of continuing education and career development opportunities. These include 30 Hour OSHA certifications, First Aid and CPR training, Project Management courses, and software training, as well as opportunities for professional development in organizations such as Carolinas AGC, Columbia Contractors Association, the Building Industry Association of SC, the National Association of Women in Construction, and the Society for Marketing Professional Services, among many others.

Time Out of the Office

Our team at Hood Construction spends a lot of time collaborating on a wide variety of projects. But we like to have fun out of the office too! We have been known to meet up before the Carolina-Clemson game to tailgate, grab some appetizers at the rooftop at Hendrix, and even have the occasional NCAA bracket challenge. We are lucky to have a great group who enjoys not only working together in the office, but also ragging on each other’s football team when we’re not!

Internship Program

The goal of Hood’s internship program is to provide our interns with the tools to succeed in the construction industry – and beyond. As an intern, you’ll be immersed in what it takes to be a Construction Manager, both in the field and in the office. Expect you time to be divided between field and office operations; on-site, you’ll assist the Project Superintendent with daily reporting, shop drawing reviews, attend weekly meetings, assist craft workers with daily tasks, observe coordination among specialty contractors in the field, observe safety audits, and much more. In the office, you’ll assist the Project Management staff with estimate takes offs, shop drawing reviews, project scheduling, participate in Fresh Eyes quality reviews, help with accounting, and attend design meetings. At the conclusion of your internship here at Hood, you will have gained a wealth of knowledge on the entire construction process from pre-construction to final closeout. These skills can be applied to many facets of the construction industry in addition to the roles in business, marketing, finance, and more. We would love to have you as part of our program!
